Obd facile is a program that reverses the workflow of an obd, thus making it possible for untrained users to extract data from the obd. This is accomplished by rewriting the ram-memory that handles all parameters, meaning that it is very easy for even novice programmers to extract data from the obds. However since this program relies on reverse engineering new steps in order to get the data, which are not explained in detail, there are lots of places where mistakes can be made. The code has been open sourced so anyone wishing to review it can do so at their leisure or fix any mistakes they see. General public of obd owners were protesting against the manufacturer that released new software which is not compatible with obd facile. The developers of this software said that it is working again with “number of VW”. Anyway, VW-vortex forums are actively discussing this issue.The aim of the project is to provide a program that allows people to extract engine data from their engine management systems in an easy way, thus enabling users to diagnose problems themselves without having to bring the car into a garage or use expensive hardware/software packages. To make this possible we need to be able to access the engine management system. We need to be able to talk the same language as the engine management system, which means we need a program that can read and write memory locations inside the ECU (same as the manufacturer’s software). If we could do that then we could easily write a program that can transfer data out of a car’s ECU memory and display it on a computer so it could be viewed. We will be using an OBD-II connector because it is the most common one. The manufacturer of the ECU has to have a standard wire mapping so that it can work with other manufacturers’ ECUs. Therefore, the program has to offer this standard wire mapping so that it can read and write user-defined memory locations in the ECU. Up until now, there was no program that could do all of this, which is why this project was undertaken. The main parameter that changes between cars is the amount of traction control that is available. This means that for each car there must be a different set of table entries in order to access this parameter properly. The source code for the module is currently only available for Windows. This software translates the ECU commands into a DSL-style language that is recognized by the PC, which means it is software that runs on the PC and talks to the ECU through an OBD2 connector. The source code is written in C++ using OpenOCD framework. Using obd facile, this can be done very quickly by taking a screenshot of one of the many windows, programming it to show what data was selected at that time and then saving it as an image file. cfa1e77820
